Enrolment at the school is governed The Ministry of Education enrolment scheme.

All in-zone students have the right to attend Christchurch Girls’ High School / Te Kura o Hine Waiora. In-zone applications are accepted at any time, however, please apply early to enable planning for next year.

Out-of-zone ballot applications for 2023 are now closed

Applications for Acland House for Year 9 2023 are now closed. Applications for Year 9 2024 close on 28th February 2023. Queries should be directed to Acland House acland@cghs.school.nz

Steps for Enrolment

Domestic students – Complete the appropriate enrolment form

In-zone applications. Applications for in-zone enrolments are accepted at any time.  Application form

Out-of-zone ballot applications for 2023 are now closed. 

Domestic Boarding students please complete the Acland House application form and the Director of Boarding will be in contact within 3 working days. Applications for Acland House for Year 9 are now closed. Applications for Year 9 2024 close on 28th February 2023. Queries should be directed to Acland House at acland@cghs.school.nz

 

International students –complete the International Student application form or for enquires email international@cghs.school.nz

All applicants for the following year, whether successful or not, are notified by letter. In-zone enrolments for the current year are accepted at any time and processed within 3 working days.

International Students’ Applications are accepted at any time, processed accordingly and students notified.

Notes for in-zone enrolment

The address given at the time of application for enrolment must be the student’s usual place of residence when the school is open for instruction. This means that if you currently live at an in-zone address but move to an out of zone address before your child’s first day of attendance at the school, your child will not be entitled to enrol at the school as an in-zone student.

The Ministry of Education has advised that parents should also be aware of the possible consequences of deliberately attempting to gain unfair priority in enrolment by knowingly giving a false address or making an in-zone living arrangement which they intend to be only temporary eg:

Renting accommodation in-zone on a short-term basis for the purpose of providing an in-zone address

Arranging temporary board at an in-zone address with a relative or family friend

Using the in-zone address of a relative or friend as an ‘address of convenience’ with no intention to live there on an ongoing basis.

If the school learns that a student is no longer living at the in-zone address given at the time of application for enrolment, and has reasonable grounds to believe that a temporary in-zone residence has been used for the purpose of unfairly gaining priority in enrolment at the school, then the Board will review the enrolment and this could result in the removal of the student from the school roll. The school has the right to, and will investigate in-zone enrolments if required. This course of action is provided for under the Education and Training Act 2020.

Our Home Zone

All students who live within the home zone described below shall be entitled to enrol at the school.

All residential properties on or within the boundary of streets described below shall be in-zone addresses for the purpose of an in-zone enrolment to Christchurch Girls’ High School.

From the intersection of Tuam Street and Colombo Streets along Tuam Street to Riccarton Avenue, west along Riccarton Avenue to Deans Avenue South along Deans Avenue to the cycleway access through to Blenheim Road, west along the cycleway to Blenheim Road, west along Blenheim Road to Wharenui Road

Then Northwards along Wharenui Road. East on Riccarton Road to Clyde Road. North along Clyde Road to Creyke Road then along Creyke Road to Illam Road. North along Ilam Road to Wairakei Road.

North along Wairakei Road as far as Blighs Road, along Blighs Road to Papanui Road and south along Papanui Road as far as Mays Road

Eastwards along Mays Road to Rutland Street. South along Rutland Street to Westminster Street, then east to Cranford Street

Then south along Cranford Street to Edgeware road, west on Edgeware Road to Colombo Street, and south on Colombo Street as far as Tuam Street.

All properties on the Chatham Islands are also included.

Proof of residence within the home zone will be required.

Application for Enrolment – In Zone

 

Out of Zone Enrolments

Each year the board will determine the number of places which are likely to be available in the following year for the enrolment of students who live outside the home zone. The board will publish this information by notice in a daily or community newspaper circulating in the area served by the school. The notice will indicate how applications are to be made and will specify a date by which all applications must be received.

Applications for Out of Zone Enrolments are now closed for 2023. Please complete this application form to apply for future years.

Applications for enrolment will be processed in the following order of priority:

The order of priority in which applicants who live outside a school’s home zone are to be offered places at the school is as follows:

a) first priority. This priority category is not applicable at Christchurch Girls’ High School Te Kura o Hine Waiora because the school does not run a special programme approved by the Secretary.

b) second priority must be given to any applicant who is the sibling of a current student of the school:

c) third priority must be given to any student who is the sibling of a former student of the school:

d) fourth priority must be given to any applicant who is a child of a former student of the school:

e) fifth priority must be given to any applicant who is either a child of an employee of the board of the school or a child of a member of the board of the school:

f) sixth priority must be given to all other applicants.

If there are more applicants in the second, third, fourth, fifth or sixth priority groups than there are places available, selection within the priority group will be by a ballot conducted in accordance with instructions issued by the Secretary under Section 11G(1) of the Education Act 1989. Parents will be informed of the date of any ballot by notice in a daily or community newspaper circulating in the area served by the school.

Applicants seeking second or third priority status may be required to give proof of a sibling relationship.
