Founded in 1877, Christchurch Girls’ High School benefits greatly from over 140 years of proud educational achievement. The second oldest single sex girls’ school in New Zealand, Christchurch Girls’ High School is the largest girls’ high school in Christchurch and one of the most successful schools nationally.
Community is the backbone of school. Christchurch Girls’ High School is enriched by the strong sense of connectedness between school and community. Students, staff, parents/caregivers and Old Girls all interact purposefully with the school. Links are deliberately forged with organisations, agencies and businesses beyond the school grounds.
The student body is drawn predominately from Christchurch but, because of the boarding element, students also come from across the South Island and the Chatham Islands. As a Decile 9 school, an enrolment scheme and zone have been in place since 2000.

Welcome to the Christchurch Girls’ High School Old Girls’ Association. We are a globally based network of former pupils and teachers of Christchurch Girls’ High School (CGHS).
The CGHS Old Girls’ Association has a long and proud history. Founded in 1900 for ex-pupils and ex-teachers, the Old Girls’ Association was established just 23 years after CGHS itself. Today, nearly 125 years later, the Association continues to play an important role in the life of Christchurch Girls’ High School/Te Kura o Hine Waiora. The Association aims to foster and keep alive amongst past and present pupils and staff, a remembrance of CGHS and Acland House; and take an active interest in the welfare of CGHS and Acland House.
Throughout its history the Association has nurtured friendships and memories through meetings and activities, and encouraged old girls to give practical support to the school and Acland House. Our Association has branches throughout New Zealand, the largest being the Christchurch branch. You can contact us at oga@cghs.school.nz. We are always thrilled to welcome and meet new members!

The Christchurch Girls’ High School PTA would like to extend a very warm welcome to the school community.
The PTA is active in providing a link between staff, parents and the Board of Trustees.
While the bulk of our funds are received from your PTA donation, we do organise fundraising and community events throughout the school year. All funds received are used to support your daughter’s school activities inside and outside the classroom. In the past, funds have been used for projects like the lunchroom upgrade, providing outdoor seating, and travel subsidies for teams and groups representing their school. In addition the PTA runs the popular second-hand uniform sales and sells school blankets and umbrellas.
The PTA meets monthly (usually the first Monday of the month) and it is a great time to meet other parents and get to know them.
We invite you to join us at our meetings and you can be assured of a very warm welcome.

Meets on the fourth Monday of each month from 5pm in the meeting room, 126, behind the Red Desk.
